What is VPN?

VPN is a technology used to create a secure and private communication channel over an insecure and public network connection. The VPN tunnel encrypts and encapsulates all data sent over the network, making it difficult for someone eavesdropping on the traffic to understand the content. The VPN tunnel is created between two computers, a client and a server. The client contacts the server and establishes a secure connection. Once the connection is established, the client can send and receive data over the VPN tunnel. VPNs are often used by businesses to ensure that their employees' communications are secure and private, regardless of their location. VPNs can also be used by private individuals to access geo-blocked services, such as Netflix. There are several different types of VPN protocols, the most common of which are PPTP, L2TP/IPSec and OpenVPN. The different protocols have different characteristics and advantages, so it is important to choose a protocol that suits your needs.
