What is ZFS?
ZFS is an advanced file system technology used to manage storage and data management on Unix-based operating systems. ZFS stands for Zettabyte File System and was created by Sun Microsystems. The technology offers a range of advanced features, including data integrity, scalability and flexibility. ZFS supports features such as checksums to ensure data is not corrupted, deduplication to reduce storage space, and snapshots to easily restore files from different points in time. Although there are other file system technologies that also offer advanced features, such as Btrfs and ext4, ZFS has gained great popularity for its reliability and performance. ZFS is also known for its ability to scale up to very large data sets and to handle complex storage requirements efficiently.
