What is SNMP?

SNMP is a network management protocol used to retrieve information from devices on a network. SNMP is a standard that defines how the information should be retrieved and how it should be interpreted. SNMP is used to retrieve information about network devices, e.g. the traffic volume of the router or the ports of the switches. SNMP is a complement to other network management protocols such as e.g. NetFlow.
