What is GIS?
GIS, or Geographic Information Systems, is a technology used to collect, store, analyze and visualize geographic data. GIS technology makes it possible to see and analyze data in a geographical context, and thus gain a better understanding of how different factors affect each other. GIS technology is similar to other technologies used to analyze data, such as statistical analysis and databases. But GIS technology has a unique focus on geographic data, and thus is particularly useful for analyzing data that has a geographic component.
