What is CakePHP?

CakePHP is an open source framework for web applications that use PHP. It is intended to make it easier and faster to create robust and scalable web applications. CakePHP is inspired by Ruby on Rails and has many of its features, such as a convention over configuration, an active user base, and an extensive API. CakePHP also allows developers to create custom frameworks using the existing API. CakePHP is a very popular framework and is used by many major websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo!. CakePHP is also one of the most used PHP frameworks on GitHub.
